Claudius Steinhardt studied computer science and management at the Technical University of Darmstadt, with a focus on Operations Research, Logistics, and Data Mining. After completing his studies, he moved to the University of Augsburg and earned his doctorate in July 2010 at the Chair of Analytics & Optimization, specializing in Revenue Management. In 2013, he completed his habilitation on the topic “Customer-Centric Modeling.” In 2016, he received offers for professorships in Information Systems at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt as well as in Data Analytics at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Claudius Steinhardt’s expertise lies in the field of Revenue Management. He leads the “Pricing and Revenue Management” working group within the German Operations Research Society (GOR), which comprises more than 200 members from both industry and academia, and he is co-author of the first German-language textbook on Revenue Management. He regularly collaborates on industry projects with well-known companies and advises on questions of Revenue Management and Pricing, as well as on the general application of quantitative approaches to solving planning and decision problems.

Claudius Steinhardt publishes regularly on topics of Revenue Management, Pricing, modeling of customer choice behavior, Advanced Analytics, and Logistics in international journals, and presents at international conferences. He also serves as a reviewer for national and international journals (including Management Science, Transportation Science, Computers & Operations Research, European Journal of Operational Research, and Omega). Furthermore, he is Department Editor (Department “Analytics for Services and Operations Management”) for the journal OR Spectrum and Associate Editor for the journal Business & Information Systems Engineering (formerly “Wirtschaftsinformatik”).

 Research Interests

In his research activities, Claudius Steinhardt focuses primarily on the development and application of methods from Operations Research, Machine Learning & Reinforcement Learning, and Advanced Analytics to issues of Pricing, Revenue Management, and Logistics. He is particularly interested in solving real-world planning and decision-making problems. In recent years, within the framework of collaborations with industry partners, he has conducted projects in cooperation with, among others, ShareNow and Sixt.
