New paper on the use of AI in military intelligence

Our landmark paper „The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Military Intelligence“ has just been published as open access in the academic journal Frontiers in Human Dynamics. The potential benefits of AI for military intelligence are undoubtedly considerable. However, the current hype surrounding AI often fails to explain what this added value looks like, or how the analysis of military information can specifically be improved through AI. Therefore, we at CISS conducted an experiment with two groups. One group worked on a realistic analysis case with AI support, while the other worked without it. We demonstrated that the group with AI support achieved significantly better results under time pressure. However, this only applies when the information is factual. This effect was no longer observable when the information was ambiguous or contradictory. In such cases, the analyst remains decisive for the evaluation.
