MMM-FAIR featured in german tech magazine IT BOLTWISE

MMM-Fair, the open-source toolkit for fairness analysis in AI systems, was recently featured in the German tech magazine IT Boltwise.

🌱 STELAR’s 4th Plenary Session at UniBwM

The STELAR consortium convened for its 4th Plenary Meeting, hosted by the University of Bundeswehr Munich, as the project approaches its final phase in August 2025.

Advancing Fairness in AI: Key Insights from the MAMMOth Project’s 5th Plenary Meeting in Vienna

Swati Swati, Arjun Roy, and Prof. Eirini Ntoutsi took part in the 5th Plenary Meeting of the MAMMOth project in Vienna, 04-05 November 2024.

Looking back at 2024

As we conclude 2024, we take pride in the achievements of our research group. This year, we presented more than 10 papers at various international conferences, including ECMLPKDD, EWAF, PAKDD, CIRP ICME and ICAIF.

Our Ph.D. student, Manolis Panagiotou, attended the ACM International Conference on AI in Finance (ICAIF24) in Brooklyn, New York, and delivered an oral presentation of our paper titled "TABCF: Counterfactual Explanations for Tabular Data Using a Transformer-Based VAE", co-authored by Prof. Ntoutsi.

Vivek at Data Makers Fest, Porto, Portugal

Dr. Vivek Kumar from AIML team, gave a talk Titled “Unlocking LLMs: Forgiving errors, risks & ethical responsibility” at the second edition of Data Makers Fest in Porto Portugal from September 24-25, 2024.

AIML AT ECMLPKDD 2024 IN VILNIUS, LITHUANIA

Prof. Ntoutsi, and Ph.Ds Emmanouil Panagiotou, Chethan Krishnamurthy Ramanaik, Arjun Roy, und Siamak Ghodsi attended the ECML PKDD 2024 in Vilnius, Lithuania, from September 09-13, 2024. The conference is considered Europe's leading event for machine learning and data analytics and looks back on a history of over two decades.

SWATI AT EWAF 2024 IN MAINZ, GERMANY

Our Postdoctoral researcher, Swati Swati, attended EWAF’24 and delivered an oral presentation of our paper titled "Exploring Fusion Techniques in Multimodal AI-Based Recruitment: Insights from FairCVdb".

UniBwM at the 4th Plenary Meeting of Project MAMMOth: A Midpoint Milestone in Athens

The team from the University of Bundeswehr Munich (UniBwM), comprising Swati Swati and Arjun Roy, recently participated in the 4th plenary meeting of the MAMMOth project, held in the beautiful Mediterranean city of Athens. Taking place from April 17th to 18th, this meeting marked the halfway point of the project's timeline, blending productive discussions with the vibrant summer vibes of Athens.

Prof. Ntoutsi took part in the "AI vs Human" panel at the versusfestival in the Silvretta Alps, Austria alongside  Dr Niya Stoimenova, with  Prof. Dr. Maximilian Lude moderating the discussion.

Team AIML at the MAMMOth Project's 3rd Plenary Meeting in November 2023, in Bologna

Ph.D. Swati Swati, Ph.D. Arjun Roy and Prof. Eirini Ntoutsi (virtually) participated in the 3rd Plenary Meeting of the EU Horizon project MAMMOth in Bologna, Italy, from 07 to 08 November 2023. During the event, they presented our research on multi-dimensional fairness and engaged in discussions with other consortium members regarding the fairness of AI systems in scenarios involving multiple forms of discrimination and across various data modalities, including tabular data, graphs, and images.

Tobias Callies has joined our group in Munich. Tobias holds a Master of Mathematics in Data Science from TUM Munich, and a Bachelor in Business Mathematics from LMU Munich. Welcome on board Tobias!

Prof. Eirini Ntoutsi will be a Research Track co-chair for ECML PKDD 2024, the leading European conference on machine learning and data analytics, which will take place in Vilnius from September 9-13.
