Teilnahme am XXIII IAHR World Congress in Krakau

Vom 24. bis 30. August die Professur für Religionswissenschaft mit Schwerpunkt Islam am Institut für Kulturwissenschaften der Universität der Bundeswehr München mit Prof. Dr. Robert Langer sowie den Mitarbeiter:innen Dr. Evelyn Reuter und Dr. Benedikt Römer am XXIII. World Congress der International Association for the History of Religions (IAHR) in Krakau teil (→ Konferenz-Website).

Im von Dr. Reuter organisierten Panel „Mapping Religion: Tools, Methods, Perspectives“ stellte Dr. Römer das im KUWI-Studiengang verankerte Modul „Inter- und Intrareligiöse Dynamiken: Forschungen zu Ort und Raum“ vor (Vortragstitel: Mapping Religion Projects as a Practical Introduction to the Study of Religions). Darin erforschen Studierende empirisch religiöse Orte in München. Weitere Vorträge thematisierten Mapping-Kurse an der Universität Leeds, das Netzwerk (un-)sichtbar sowie ein Mapping-Projekt zu Religionen in Turku (Finnland).

Prof. Dr. Langer übernahm die Response und gab dabei Kommentare und Ausblicke zu den Themenfeldern „Tools, Methods, Perspectives“. Daran anschließend entwickelte sich eine lebhafte Diskussion mit den Teilnehmenden, die u. a. Ziele, Herausforderungen und methodische Fragen solcher Mapping-Ansätze in Forschung und Lehre in den Blick nahm.

Participation in the XXIII IAHR World Congress in Krakow

From 24 to 30 August, the Chair of Studies of Religions with focus on Islam at the Institute for Cultural Studies, University of the Bundeswehr Munich participated in the XXIII World Congress of the International Association for the History of Religions (IAHR) in Krakow with Prof. Dr. Robert Langer and the research associates Dr. Evelyn Reuter and Dr. Benedikt Römer (→ conference website).

In the panel “Mapping Religion: Tools, Methods, Perspectives”, organized by Dr. Reuter, Dr. Römer presented the module “Inter- and Intrareligious Dynamics: Research on Place and Space” (presentation title: Mapping Religion Projects as a Practical Introduction to the Study of Religions), which is integrated into the KUWI degree program. Within this module, students conduct empirical research on religious sites in Munich. Additional talks highlighted mapping courses at the University of Leeds, the network (un-)sichtbar ([in-]visible), and a mapping project on religions in Turku (Finland).

Prof. Dr. Langer responded by offering comments and forward-looking reflections on the topics of “Tools, Methods, Perspectives.” This was followed by a lively exchange with the audience, addressing goals, challenges, and methodological aspects of such mapping approaches in research and teaching.
