IMCS at FE ohne Schnee

For the first time, IMCS was invited to participate in this year's FE im Schnee event and was able to present its research in contact mechanics and mixed-dimensional modeling. The event series was initiated by Professor Ramm, Professor Stein and Professor Wunderlich to support the networking and exchange of ideas between the participating research groups of different chairs and institutes in the field of (structural) mechanics from Germany and Austria.

Leon Eckardt wins study prize for outstanding master's thesis

Last Saturday, June 24, 2022, Leon Eckardt, who is currently an external PhD student at IMCS, was awarded the study prize of the Friends of the University for his outstanding master thesis on the topic "Berechnung von Eigenschwingformen von Platten mittels Isogeometrischer Analysis".

CSE Colloquium talk on "Numerical Design of Engineering Components and their Production Processes"

On June 22, 2022, the second talk of the research colloquium Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) organized by Professors Apel, Brünig, Kiendl and Popp took place.

New Open Access Publication on Fluid-Beam Interaction

The article has successfully passed the peer review process and has been published by the international journal Advanced Modeling and Simulation in Engineering Sciences in an Open Access format. This publication proposes a novel computationally efficient mixed-dimensional embedded finite element approach for the coupling of one-dimensional geometrically exact beam equations to a three-dimensional background fluid mesh, referred to as fluid-beam interaction (FBI).

New Preprint on Space-Time Finite Elements on Arxiv

In this manuscript four variants of space-time finite element discretizations based on linear tensor-product and simplex-type finite elements are constructed and analysed.

IMCS at the Contact Mechanics International Symposium 2022

Computational Contact Mechanics is one of our main research topics at IMCS, where our activities span from micromechanical modeling to robust discretization schemes for large deformations in large-scale applications. From May 23rd to May 25th, part of the "Computational Simulation" group (Prof. Popp) took part in the 10th edition of the Contact Mechanics International Symposium (CMIS) hosted in Chexbres, Switzerland.

Project RISK.twin in the current issue of the "Hardthöhenkurier"

In the current issue of the "Hardthöhenkurier", the dtec.bw research project RISK.twin presents itself. In addition to an overview article on the topic of "Critical Infrastructure Protection", an interview was also conducted with the project leader Prof. Popp.

IMCS at the doctoral student network "Digital Bridge" in Hamburg

Doctoral student network "Digital Bridge" launched

Within the framework of dtec.bw, the two universities of the Bundeswehr cooperate in research on the digitalization of bridges. To strengthen joint research and communication between the disciplines, the "Digital Bridge" doctoral student network has now been launched.

DFG approves and funds new research project in biomedical engineering

The German Research Foundation (DFG) has approved Prof. Popp's project proposal entitled "Multi-scale algorithms and simulation methods for patient-specific optimization of endovascular interventions in cerebral aneurysms". We are looking forward to a new exciting research project at IMCS with an initial duration of three years and especially to the collaboration with our cooperation partners!

Renovation of the institute comes to a conclusion

Renovation of the institute and the DSC laboratory included replacing floors, painting walls and doors, and installing new ceiling lights and blinds.

Guided tour through the laboratory of the Institute of Structural Engineering

IMCS is collaborating with the Professorship of Concrete Structures to integrate sensor data and FEM models into a hybrid digital twin.
