3rd German Workshop on Next-Generation Software Development in Computational Mechanics
1 August 2025
From July 29 to 31, the 3rd German Workshop on Next-Generation Software Development in Computational Mechanics took place at the Palotti Haus in Freising. The event brought together researchers and developers from the
- Institute for Mathematics and computer-based Simulation, University of the Bundeswehr Munich
- Institute for Computational Mechanics, Technical University of Munich
- Professorship of Simulation for Additive Manufacturing (SAM)
- Applied Numerics group, Ruhr-Universität Bochum
- Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon
- Technical University of Hamburg
to exchange ideas on open-source software development in computational mechanics.
A central focus was the joint work on the open-source codes
🔗 4C multiphysics,
🔗 QUEENS, and
🔗 deal.II.
The three-day program featured: Code-specific sessions for in-person developer discussions, a poster session with thematic scientific contributions, as well as an introductory lecture followed by a hands-on session on the theory and application of (block-)preconditioners in 4C and deal.II.
As a social highlight, participants explored the historical city of Freising on a walking tour, climbed the Domberg, and concluded the day with a guided tour and dinner at the Weihenstephan Brewery.
We sincerely thank all organizers - especially Georg Hammerl - for their effort in shaping the technical content, and all contributors for their engaging presentations and posters.
