IMCS participates in an Interdisciplinary Workshop on Brain Aneurysm Research

4 August 2025

Martin Frank and Ratnadeep Pramanik had the opportunity to participate in the Interdisciplinary Aneurysm Science Workshop, hosted by the Research Group for Numerical Analysis (led by Prof. Barbara Wohlmuth, Department of Mathematics, TU Munich). Ratnadeep presented the ongoing research at our institute on contour device modeling for brain aneurysm, with a talk titled "High-Fidelity Mechanical Modeling of the Contour Device for Brain Aneurysms". The workshop was closely related to the DFG SPP 2311 and took place at the inspiring TUM Science & Study Center in Raitenhaslach, which — with its idyllic atmosphere at the German-Austrian border — provided an ideal setting for interdisciplinary exchange.

The event brought together scientists from various disciplines to identify common challenges in the imaging, treatment, device modeling, and flow measurements of brain aneurysms. The workshop days were filled with engaging in-depth discussions that strengthened collaboration among all participants by combining medical insight with numerical methods and modeling aspects. The social aspect of the workshop was also well organized, and included local sightseeing at the nearby castle and a guided tour through the historic monastery that now houses the academic center in Raitenhaslach. The workshop was a great learning and motivational, and provided grounds for next steps towards academic collaborations and served the nucleus for further joint ventures.

We are immensely grateful to Prof. Wohlmuth and her organizational team for this opportunity and also making us a part of this inspiring initiative.
