Univ.-Prof.'in Julia Elad-Strenger Ph.D.

Prof. Dr. Elad-Strenger ist Sozial- und Politikpsychologin. In ihrer Arbeit verbindet sie die Bereiche Sozialpsychologie, politisches Verhalten und öffentliche Meinungsforschung. Sie untersucht, wie individuelle Dispositionen wie Werte, Motivationen und Emotionen mit Gruppenprozessen wie sozialen Identitäten und Normen zusammenwirken, um soziopolitische Einstellungen und politische Präferenzen zu formen. Ihr Fokus liegt insbesondere auf dem Verständnis der psychologischen Mechanismen, die extremistische Ideologien, antidemokratische Einstellungen, die Unterstützung politischer Gewalt und die Konfliktdynamik sowohl im internationalen als auch im nationalen Kontext antreiben. Dafür wendet sie einen methodischen Ansatz an, der groß angelegte Panelerhebungen mit Labor- und Feldexperimenten kombiniert und vergleichende Forschungsdesigns für den Nahen Osten, Westeuropa und die Vereinigten Staaten verwendet.

Die Forschung von Prof. Elad-Strenger basiert auf interdisziplinärer Zusammenarbeit. Um zeitgenössische soziopolitische Prozesse zu analysieren und evidenzbasierte Ansätze zur Stärkung der demokratischen Resilienz zu entwickeln, arbeitet sie mit Kollegen aus der Psychologie, Politikwissenschaft, Soziologie, Philosophie, Rechtswissenschaft und verwandten Disziplinen zusammen.

Prof. Dr. Elad-Strenger promovierte im Jahr 2015 im Fach Psychologie an der Ben-Gurion-Universität in Israel. Anschließend forschte sie bis 2017 als Postdoc am „Psychology of Intergroup Conflict & Reconciliation Lab” der Reichman University in Israel. Von 2017 bis 2018 war sie Alexander-von-Humboldt-Stipendiatin am Lehrstuhl für Sozialpsychologie der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena. Von 2018 bis 2025 hatte sie eine Assistenzprofessur an der Fakultät für Politikwissenschaften der Bar-Ilan-Universität in Israel inne.

Prof. Dr. Elad-Strenger is a social and political psychologist whose work integrates social psychology, political behavior, and public opinion research. She investigates how individual dispositions, such as values, motivations and emotions, interact with group processes, such as social identities and norms, to shape socio-political attitudes and policy preferences. She focuses particularly on understanding the psychological mechanisms that drive extremist ideologies, anti-democratic attitudes, support for political violence and conflict dynamics in both international and domestic contexts. She employs a methodological approach that combines large-scale panel surveys with laboratory and field experiments, using comparative research designs across the Middle East, Western Europe, and the United States.

Prof. Elad-Strenger's research is grounded in interdisciplinary collaboration. She works alongside colleagues from psychology, political science, sociology, philosophy, law and related disciplines to analyze contemporary socio-political processes and develop evidence-based approaches to enhance democratic resilience.

Prof. Dr. Elad-Strenger obtained her PhD in Psychology from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel in 2015. Subsequently she conducted postdoctoral research until 2017 at Reichman University in Israel at the Psychology of Intergroup Conflict & Reconciliation Lab. Between 2017 and 2018 she was an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at the Department of Social Psychology at Friedrich-Schiller-Universität in Jena. From 2018 to 2025, Prof. Elad-Strenger was an Assistant Professor (tenured) in the Department of Political Studies at Bar-Ilan University in Israel.
