Call for Papers
Invitation to Contribute
We are pleased to invite contributions to the Symposium on Crisis Early Warning organized by the Center for Crisis Early Warning (CCEW) at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich and the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) on “The Potential of Data, AI, and Interdisciplinary Analysis in Situational Awareness and Decision Making”. The Symposium on Crisis Early Warning aims to bring together researchers, policy makers, and practitioners in the field to engage in different panels and discussions.
The Symposium on Crisis Early Warning has three aims:
- Strengthening interdisciplinary research to enhance conflict research.
- Fostering data-driven strategies for crisis early warning within conflict research.
- Establishing a collaborative space for academia, practitioners, policy- and decision-makers.
Topics Related to the Theme
We invite empirical, conceptual and theoretical papers from scholars at all career stages:
- New data sources in quantitative conflict research, including unstructured data like texts and images;
- Data-driven methodologies to predict conflict and instability, including machine learning (ML) approaches, large language models (LLM), and natural language processing (NLP);
- Ethical considerations in the field of predictive analytics;
- Interdisciplinary approaches in crisis early warning research;
- Transparency and research communication in the field of crisis early warning.
How to Participate
Interested scholars should submit an abstract of max. 300 words and a short bio, including affiliation, to the CCEW until June 30, 2025.
There will be no conference fee.
